The SlotCap Story
About SlotCap

I was tired of the newspaper slot in my mailbox being stuff with "junk mail" or home to birds and other random animals. I knew other people felt the same way, but there was no commercially available solution. Trust me, we searched big box stores, hardware stores and the four corners of the internet. There was nothing to be found.
This issue continued to nag at me and started to look at how others handled this. Some people would just refuse to empty the tube making it impossible to use. Others resorted to packing tape which was effective but not very attractive. I realized that the design was very prevalent and just removing the tube would not be an option because of cost and neighborhood aesthetics. The thought arose that all the metal tubes could be capped with similar materials leaving a clean consistent look and solving the problem. But how would this cap be attached?
Over the next several months the Slot Cap concept began to crystallize. We tried several different designs until the right material thickness and fasteners were found. They all had some sort of spring mechanism to hook inside the tube but slight modifications developed based on the prototypes that helped with alignment and cost. Finally a working prototype was available.
